"Many thanks for you interest in the making of "Star Wars". As a prop maker and set dresser we had a lot of things that had not been done before and had to be very inventive in making new things.
Mostly on "The Empire strikes back" I worked in the interior of the Millennium Falcon in the corridors and cockpit, then on the X-Wing Fighters in the cockpit instrumentation. On "Return of the Jedi" which by the way had the working title of "Revenge of the Jedi" until someone pointed out before its release that a Jedi Knight would not seek revenge but would return. Interestingly I still own a crew sweat shirt with the working title on it. On Jedi I again worked on the Millennium Falcon but this time on the exterior wing and all the mechanics you can see on the outside was my work. Than again on the X-Wing Fighter, the snow mobiles and remedial work on R2-D2 fixing parts that got damaged in action, and worked other robots featrured in the films. At times I also worked closely with the sfx department making props for them to blow up! We made several copies of the same props so we could replace ones damaged in action, and some of the props are highly prized by collectors today.
Now I have retired from the film industry and sometime in the future I will most probably take part in some of the Star Wars Conventions."
